Dear God,

Thank you for being my hope in times of waiting. It’s such a hard place to be – the waiting time. It feels so……long.

I can’t help but focus every day on the thing for which I’m waiting,

or all the obstacles preventing what I’m waiting for from happening,

or my own inability to make what I’m waiting for happen,

or the fact it can feel like everyone around me hasn’t had to wait, but I do.

You are right. Focusing here only increases my feelings of hopelessness and helplessness. So, gracious God, patient God, trustworthy God, please help me to consider the facts, but not make those my focus. Keep my mind’s eye and my heart’s trust on You, the One Who has made promises –

and keeps them.

I think of those around me waiting…waiting for healing, for relief from grief, for guidance toward the right next step, for answers to prayer that feel so very far away. May your presence be felt in tangible ways, Lord – in homes and hospital rooms, in early morning hope and late evening tears.

Thank you, God, for upholding me – us – all –  in the waiting, whatever it is we feel we are waiting for.

May this too become an occasion of strength.

In Christ’s name, Amen.

  2. so happy that my mom shared this with me – I am making some huge life changes that “start” in 2016 that involve leaping without a net… exhilarating and scary at the same time. This is just what I needed. thanks!
